Optical thin film devices primarily control light: transmission, reflection and polarization. Structures vary from single layer films that must have a known thickness and index of refraction to 10’s of layers consisting of different films, each with its own optical characteristic.

Sierra’s cathodes are widely used in optical film applications: IR devices, colored glass lenses, and optical filters are only a few of the applications. Rectangular cathodes are used in large drum batch systems while smaller round cathodes used in individual coating chambers.
